Lights, Camera, Awareness: Mustangs use media to fight breast cancer.

Each year, this project not only raises awareness but also gives our students meaningful, real-world media production experience.

Juniors: Voiceover PSA with Graphics & Images

Our juniors are producing voiceover PSAs that combine narration with impactful graphics and images. They’re learning how to match tone, timing, and visuals in a way that communicates a strong, clear message.

Seniors: 30/60 Second Video PSA

Meanwhile, our seniors are taking it a step further by creating 30- and 60-second video PSAs. These short-form productions challenge them to use all of their skills—from scriptwriting and cinematography to editing and post-production. Their projects are designed not only to inform, but to inspire action.

Portfolio-Worthy Assignment

Both junior and senior projects qualify as Portfolio Worthy Assignments—a critical part of our students’ Senior Defense projects, as well as their Graduate Profile and Portfolio. These PSAs aren’t just practice runs; they’re work our students will proudly showcase as examples of their professional growth and readiness for life beyond high school.

Researching Charities with Accountability

A unique element of this assignment is research. Each student team must select a breast cancer charity to support and verify its legitimacy using Charity Navigator. This trusted site evaluates non-profits for transparency and accountability, ensuring that donor funds are actually used for the mission promised. By requiring this step, students gain valuable insight into how to research organizations and make informed decisions about charitable giving.

Looking Ahead

We’re excited to see the creativity, thoughtfulness, and professionalism our students bring to this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness PSAs. Their work has the potential to make an impact not just here at school, but throughout the community.

We’ll be sharing finished projects soon—stay tuned!

Go Mustangs! 💙💛
